I don't sing just to sing
nor for having a good voice,
I sing because the guitar
has meaning and reason.
It has the heart of the land
and the wings of small doves,
it is like blessed water,
it blesses glory and pain.
Here did my song fit,
like Violeta said,1
hard-working guitar
with a scent of spring.
Because it is not a guitar of riches
nor things, like it seems.
My song is that of scaffolds,
for reaching the stars.
Because the song has meaning
when there palipates in my veins...
from which it will die singing
... the true truths.
Not the fleeting flattery
nor the foreign fame,
but rather the song of a market
towards the back of the land.
There where everything goes
and everything begins,
the song that has been brave
will always be the new song,
will always be the new song,
will always be the new song...
1. Probably a reference to Violeta Parra (1917-1967), another famous exponent of Nueva Canción Chilena.
