We were so young
A day like any other
But the sun never set
For the fated one
In but a single instant
From nowhere it came
To rake havoc unwarranted
Upon life's ignorant naivety
And there lain strewn asunder
Writhing in temporal suffering
Last gasps of a mortal being
A frenzy of haste for naught
Helpless to change destiny
To undo what was done
Only to witness a harsh truth
We all must die some time
The dead do not suffer so
Their wounds are relieved soon
Those injuries unseen, lasting
Are borne by the living still
The sun shone that blurred day
A nightmare awake and alert
That taught terror deeply etched
And spent living a treasure earned
