Born to a world rendered apart
Or molded to its might
A child raised amongst egos
Of relative significance reviled
An environment chaotic
The child learns in confusion
Norms that are all but that
A tug of war continuous
Fed by insecurities within
By uncaring, unsharing out
Lessons learned in youth
Last a lifetime, long and hard
Inherited dysfunctional acts
The behavior far reaching
Spans beyond a single age
A child that becomes a pawn
Will learn to play the participants
And soon their master will be
The piece they so easily forfeited
Put instead the masters into play
A game without clear winners
For a competition so dear
Renders no trophies desired
Instead a legacy melancholic
That spreads like a pandemic
In the end each life turns cold
The parents find loneliness
The child n'er satisfied, spoiled
Learned lessons in manipulation
And a life lived, full of frustration
A soul cleaved in twain selfishly
Hauled and halved in obligation
Fraught with conflict, confusion
Seeking satisfaction unachievable
Left betrayed, forlorn, and let down
