The progression of domestic activity
A number of couples upon the step
In a new household just two pairs
Little room and put each day aside
As the days progress, more feet
Lengthening the distance needed
So the pairs amass further still
At times some being yet foreign
But as the tides take their toll
And the dogs stray off elsewhere
Their matches vacate their space
One step at a time on other paths
And in old age even the loyal twins
In time must part dual company
Until at last but one set remains
A quandary of one soul with two shoes
