To others they are compelled
They say it is bad to live alone
In lives of ease companions kept
They give respite to life's woes
Never alone, never forgotten
Their voices come to me still
Whether mortally spent or not
Their presence was made clear
Life's pastels are sewn together
In a quilted blanket that covers
It may be comforting to the cold
It's always there, securely placed
Always there, they frequent by
Reminding me of my duties here
Showing the way in their absence
My obligations retain their lives
Never alone, never to be done
What appears to be emptiness
Are precious treasures humble
Unlocked by patience and sincerity
