Washing clothes in the water, cold
With fingers arthritic aching, old
Widowed and alone on the earth alone
A laundress of others' possessions
The tears that wash away the soap
Mix pure sorrows with happiness
Amid the memories mixed in the rinse
Joys that wash away in a current
I remember you, remember well
My heart felt your toil, your pain
A spirit of compassion, in passing
I pray you find tranquility, flowing
Even if it is not here, surviving
