Life has scurried away
Leaving a chilly hulk behind
Lying in state for somber view
That masses might pass by
There, lie the mortal remnants
Holding fast a modest soul
Wrapped in decorations many
Lounging at perpetual attention
Silent vigilence posted near
Heads bowed in reverence
Not lent to the living being
A paradox of respect given
Farewells taken ritualistic
Tears dripping upon the land
Too saline and on barren earth
So on marble nothing grows
A friend so close lies so still
No heart beating, no voice, no
The pallor of death worn out
Denying the spirit once known
So many moments in silence
Troubling thoughts mix in
Amid those once so very dear
The ones that call tears up
They cannot come rolling
Down cheeks full of life
Weeping with sorrow's might
Careening rivlets yet caring
The numbing events bleek
Carry on in actions unthought
Going through the motions
Amid pomp and circumstance
When the bugle sounded
The protocols are all defined
Earth reclaims her creation
It's time to say goodbye
Goodbye dear one, goodbye...
