Laura Stevenson covers Elliott Smith

Taken from the 2007 collection of previously unreleased material, New Moon, “Angel In The Snow” is an overlooked gem in Elliott Smith’s catalog. While not a traditional holiday ode, Laura Stevenson saw the inherent beauty in the tender love song, dropping by The A.V. Club office to offer her own delicate take on it. Though Stevenson is accustomed to penning heartbreakers of her own, she also shares a familial link to one of the holiday season’s most iconic tracks: “Little Drummer Boy.” As she notes in the interview below, her grandfather was part of the songwriting team behind the snare-laden Christmas tune, which precipitates her mother’s yearly request for a “Little Drummer Girl” update.
