Every year winter closes in

Each day cooler than the last

Night comes earlier, frost falls

Soon the snows blow in

Their intention to overtake

To kill anything alive and green

But there is a checkpoint ahead

That does not give way easily

Nor do its occupants surrender

Here, winter must fight hard

To molest the fragile greenery

Its trophies a few and weakling

So the struggle is time equated

That frigid fingers will not win

Without a fight, even to death

For even if many succumb

There is always survivors

Even in a massacre of cold

Strength is then not in force

But in the ability to endure

So the dead, and living reappear
