We saw more great falls that peaks
Of course we were at Balthazar’s feast,
We were learning language of victorious Visigoths
On duty we drank all last Caesar’s pay
We outlived Roland, to prove Charles’ death,
Remains of powers shall not expect mercy.
Together with Saint Louis seeing ourselves in halos
We were vomiting blood on Jerusalem sands.
What once was omnipotent now is becoming powerless.
Where is sweet smell of Arabia? Where is mysterious Siam?
Millennia religions are not eternal for us too
And democracy booms, matures and passes away...
And we are being led by seven demons, who feed on us:
Ahead pride goes with dancing lantern,
Greed has clinged to a saddle and roots in saddlebags,
Lust frolics under the armor, not easy temptation.
Hog demands drinks and food, up to glut,
Delightful laziness lures to velvet beds,
Anger wakes and throws threats everywhere,
Jealousy does not know sleep and silently kills
So armed in forces for which there is no cure
We are still building and overthrowing powers.
So undeniably well-deserved for every empire
We – people of quill, sword and hare fear
We are gravediggers of our own makings,
Destroying them with hare fear, sword or a poem.
We wander alone on old battle trails,
That now are ruled by weed, stone or a lizard.
Steed is stumbling, because military saddle is heavy
And horseman in full armor is straying on hills.
We are like animals – attached to the rhythms of the death,
Although there is human in us – it still pushes to the New Jerusalem;
So we are cocking an ear at echoes of new battles,
Because we know that we will certainly hear them someday...
And we are being led by seven demons, who feed on us:
Ahead pride goes with dancing lantern,
Greed has clinged to a saddle and roots in saddlebags,
Lust frolics under the armor, not easy temptation.
Hog demands drinks and food, up to glut,
Delightful laziness lures to velvet beds,
Anger wakes and throws threats everywhere,
Jealousy does not know sleep and silently kills
So armed in forces for which there is no cure
We will be still building and overthrowing powers.
