A voice jovially issues
A "Happy Memorial Day"
For us, it's a happy death day
There are no barbeques
No parties and drink
At my quiet home
For here lives conflict
Wars unending
Lives unmending
Silence reigns supreme
Where chaos once ruled
And destinies were met
Here on guiltless grounds
Survival is now a liability
Unknown to stifled dead
No one will take notice
Fewer still give thought
To a veteran in turmoil
Counting down the days
Fewer to be and no wake up
Getting short, on death days
