Since birth I can remember
Being silent, being distant
To avoid a menacing focus
And its unfair consequence
Living in a world of pain
Is this what a childhood earns
That a monster close comes fast
A flash, an instant, a beating
What cannot be seen , lashed yet
The cruel tongue inflicts too
Hell is not far, but heaven is
No rhyme, no reason, boom...
A flare of fury, lashes dealt
Wounds, some healed then
Others weep on unhealed
Hiding from uncertainty
Solutions would be worse
Unknown, denied witnesses
Afraid to get self involved
The tears fell unnoticed
A wooden desk, a cruel tool
To bruises and tears found
Concealed in kids' clothes
Reality is different for each
But crimes are not for living
Death is a welcomed guest
To give relief to the afflicted
Doomed to e'er be made bad
Angel in the neighborhood
Deemed as a devil at home
The same child, same one
A reflection of self weakness
Unable to muster a defense
To meet those cruel eyes
Those cruel words strewn so
What noble cause is there
What court to condemn
A child, a meager child
Of flesh and blood, of pain
Look now, the years recall
See thy hand accursed
Thy words resound chilled
In the empty corridors many
Where goodness is gone
Where a heart beats not
What measure of good then
What noble legacy is left
Now time betrays and takes
And all that might has fallen
The judge is now condemned
The sun came up everyday
Shadows grow long and dark
A mirror now mocks the wicked
Doomed to isolation there
Sad, living in a world of pain
I'll give you something to cry about
N'er a hug, nor an apology it be
Always sorrow and grief owed
A debt left unpaid somehow
Still living in a world of pain
